About Me

I’m Dawsonne G. Jones, and I am honored to participate as a Debutante in the Capital City Cotillion & Beautillion of Raleigh, North Carolina. This experience is a meaningful milestone for me—one that reflects my commitment to scholarship, leadership, character, and community service.

I am the daughter of Lester E. Jones, Jr. and Melissa Walton-Jones, and I have one brother, Darion Jones. I am the paternal granddaughter of Lester E. Jones and the late Patricia A. Jones of Columbus, MS, and the maternal granddaughter of Sammie Lee Walton, Sr. (Cynthia Walton) of Nashville, TN and Machelle Walton of Holly Springs, MS. I also have a wonderful “gang” of aunts, uncles, and cousins all over the place.

I am currently a junior at Cox Mill High School, where I am an Honors student. I am interested in law and medicine, though I can’t decide which path I will pursue yet—thankfully, I don’t have to know right now. I am a dedicated student and proud Student Ambassador, and I strive to lead with integrity both inside and outside the classroom. I enjoy learning, writing, athletics, and creative expression, and I embrace every opportunity to grow academically, personally, and spiritually.

I participate in school choir, cheer, golf, and the Black Student Union. I am also the founder of The Crown Club and B.N.U. The Crown Club empowers students to embrace their natural beauty and natural hair, supported through Jack and Jill advocacy efforts. B.N.U. (Be a New You) Advocacy Group is a student-led ally and support network for peers facing substance-related challenges. I am also a competitive cheerleader with Charlotte Ultimate Cheer: Team Empress!

I attend Elevation Church at University City. When I am not participating in Youth Collective, you can find me serving as a babysitter in the church nursery—I work with the babies. I enjoy working and volunteering in my community through RAKE (Random Acts of Kindness Every day), giving warm socks and singing to seniors with my mom, participating in Stolen Lunches (blessing bags for the unhoused), and serving through my Jack and Jill chapter.

I’ve been a member of Jack and Jill since I was a toddler, beginning in the Kansas City, MO Chapter, continuing through my elementary years in Portsmouth, VA, my tween years in the Cincinnati, OH Chapter, and now my current chapter in Charlotte, NC as a Teen. My involvement in Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated has shaped my understanding of service and leadership. This year, I’m excited to serve as the Teen Recording Secretary for Trendsetters, the Teen Grade Group of the Queen City Chapter.

I am grateful for my parents, mentors, friends, and community members who pour into my growth. Most importantly, I am thankful for faith and family that keep me grounded. As I continue this journey of grace, poise, and purpose, I look forward to making a positive impact and carrying these values with me into the future. I hope you enjoy following me on my journey through my blog. If you would like to donate or purchase a ticket to the Cotillion, please click on the button below.
